Seats and benches discussed by council
Concerns have been raised about the poor condition of some seats and benches around Berwick.
Berwick Town Council has responsibility for some 300 of them.
However, some are also privately sponsored by people in memory of loved ones.
Coun Brian Douglas said: “Some of them have fallen into disrepair. One of the areas that’s neglected is along the pier. Many have been provided by loved ones but they are in need of renovation.”
However, Coun Alex Gibson expressed surprise and said the pier seats had been repainted two years ago.
A call was made by local resident Brian Darling for a rolling charge for seat plaques to be introduced, with seats in preferred locations costing more to buy.
Clark Gareth Davies said he would not recommend this unless demand increased.
