A Burns lunch was held at Scremerston First School.

The haggis was paraded by Margaret Wright, accompanied on the bagpipes by Anne Rooney. Ian Buick addressed the haggis and the children, many of whom wore tartan for the day, very much enjoyed his dramatic recital of the traditional poem and his cutting of the haggis using a First World War bayonet.

Meanwhile, a series of readings will be held at the end of the current term as a thank you to head teacher Helen Harrison who will retire then.

Berwick Rotary Club’s immediate past president, Peter Walton, said Scremerston had been the venue for events organised by the club for local first schools.

He said Mrs Harrison had always been very helpful and supportive and the Rotarians who were present had always enjoyed the occasion.
