School opens new art gallery in playground
Pupils at Holy Trinity First School have a smart new home for their artwork, thanks to a generous donation from a grandparent.
Parents and local businesses have also contributed to ensure the gallery is fully equipped and tastefully decorated.
The Art in the Yard hut will be officially opened today by Karen Henriques, who wanted to share a recent windfall with the school.
It will be the first time many of the children will have seen inside the building, which has been kitted out with gallery-style fixtures and cushions to encourage visitors to stay and contemplate.
The first exhibition features a selection of work from each class including black pen drawings, batik prints and sepia photographs. The new space will be used for quiet group work in class time and for further exhibitions. The next event will be the Year 4 annual art exhibition. Thanks to Allan Brothers and parents who supplied furnishings and gave up their time to help decorate the hut.
