Wilf Renton, surrounded by pupils, on his last day as headteacher at St Mary's First School in Berwick in 2007. Wilf retired at the end of the Christmas term after 16 years at the helm. He is perhaps best known for helping Trevor Steven on the road to football stardom. He spotted him while scouting for Burnley and got him signed on associate schoolboy terms. Trevor later went on to play for Everton, Rangers and England.
