The results indicate the staycation trend is continuing in 2017 as Brits opt to stay put and holiday in some of the most picturesque locations the UK has to offer.

What’s more, with UK temperatures set to soar this summer, and recent data showing the rising costs of foreign holidays, regions such as the Scottish and Northumberland coastlines are seeing a resurgence in popularity.

Graham Hodgson, chief executive of Verdant Leisure, said: “A recent survey by Asda Travel Money revealed the average cost of taking the children on holiday abroad during the summer is around £1,212.

“At Verdant Leisure, you pay for your accommodation, instead of per person, making holidays with us more cost effective than many destinations abroad plus there is no need to fly. This, coupled with our recent £2.7million portfolio investment, has resulted in a substantial increase in holiday sales for us this year.”

The holiday park operator has seen 68 per cent of direct bookings coming from new customers in 2017. In addition, existing customers have accounted for 32% of bookings. The holiday park operator has also seen a 79 per cent YoY increase in holiday home sales.

“As well as attracting new customers to our parks this year, a recent customer survey revealed that 95% of our holidaymakers would book a repeat holiday with us, which is very encouraging! 2017 is on track to be another pivotal year for the business and we are excited to see what the future brings,” continued Mr Hodgson.
