A no-waiting-at-any-time restriction is being proposed by Northumberland County Council.

Some residents had raised concerns with Cllr Gavin Jones, member for Berwick North, about vehicles being parked too close to the junction, causing a traffic safety issue.

It is thought some of the drivers parking there are rail passengers, some of whom leave their vehicles for days or even weeks.

Cllr Jones has received approval to use some of his schemes funding for the work. He said: “This continues my schemes alleviating parking issues associated with the railway station, while the long-term solution is worked on.”

Cllr Gordon McLean added: “Cars are parking right up against the junctionand some people are going away for weeks at a time.

“People turning into the junction are sometimes having to back out again.”

Cllr Hazel Bettison said: “It’s getting worse at that junction. It’s a matter of time before someone gets killed there.”

Cllr McLean said it was a different issue causing congestion issues on Northumberland Avenue.

“It’s about road and safety sense there,” he said.
