NNL

The North Northumberland Golf League will tee off for the new season on Wednesday, May 4.

Opening night fixtures are:

Division 1 – Alnmouth A v Berwick; Bamburgh v Dunstanburgh A; Alnwick v Rothbury.

Bamburgh Ladies

Peugeot LGU Coronation foursomes – The Bamburgh representatives at the Area Final will be Alison Brett & Liz Hilton, 33 pts. Reserves Tessa McKeag & Lyn Yarwood, 29pts.

Goswick

The season is well under way and the fairways of the links are filling up with golfers parading their new golf apparel and latest g-force drivers. The shorts and Norah Batty stockings are just around the corner.

The April Medal was played last Sunday, and Alec Waterson won on countback from a fired up Gordon Steven, both shooting rounds of nett 70.

The next four in the pecking order each scored nett 71 – all being separated by the better back nine rule – David Chidley, Ken Minshull, Cameron Mitchell and Martin Hindhaugh.

Ivan Martin shot lowest gross with a 74-0.74.

This coming Sunday (April 17) is the spring meeting/Paul Henry Trophy.

In the ladies’, the Stoddart Cup was won by D Warren with a score of 97-23-74. Second was J Johnson on 86-11-75, and third B Minshull on 95-19-76.

Magdalene Fields

Saturday’s men’s eclectic first round was won by Richard Farish with an outstanding round of golf, 75-12-63. Another great round from Mark Hodgson saw him take second place, 71-05-66, and Peter Beveridge was third with another low round, 74-07-67.

M Nisbit, G Cumming, R Farish, D Reap and B Weatherburn all recorded twos, while best gross was M Hodgson, 71.

On Sunday, the Ladies’ Cup Round 1 went to Kara Yule, with 82-09-73. June Rae was second, 97-23-75, and third was Angela Sharp, 109-32-77.

Also on Sunday, the Fields staged the International Pairs 4bbb stableford, with Paul Ruddick and Iain Wakenshaw coming out on top with a superb 47pts. Daniel Watson and Richard Farish were second on 45pts, and Drew Simmie and John Wilton took third with 43pts. D Watson, D Herriot, S Eddington, B Fairley and J Wilton all records twos.

Fixtures this week are: Saturday, April 16 – medal sweep; Sunday, April 17 – Ahlstrom Pairs and Ladies’ monthly medal.

Seahouses

Miss Runciman Cup – Alan Trimby 69-3-66; Kevin Filer 75-7-68; Christopher Hill 75-7-68; Ron Bewley 79-11-68; Billy Fawcus 85-15-70; George McAdam 85-15-70.

Senior Men’s Open 4bbb – D O’Brien and M Marshall (Morpeth) 43pts (on last nine); J Jude and G Noble (Tyneside) 43; A Roger and D Leslie (Goswick) 42; B Ord and J Glenwright (Hexham) 41 (on last nine).

Wooler

Saturday saw the Thomas Lillie Memorial Qualifier, and the winner was Geoff Tong, 7-14-65, ahead of Paul Routledge, 75-7-68.

The quarter finals will be this coming Sunday, starting at 8.30am.

The Bogey competition took place on Sunday, and the winner was Chris Wilkinson, who finished 3 up, well clear of runner-up Ryan Carr on 3 down.
