Roads to get £40m makeover
Drivers across the North East will benefit from a £40million makeover of the region's motorways and major A roads this year, providing drivers with smoother and safer journeys.
This is in addition to carrying out major road improvement schemes across the region.
Highways England service delivery team leader, Hayden Green, said: “This investment will see 95 separate schemes taking place throughout the region and will improve the journeys for the hundreds of thousands of drivers who use our roads every day.”
They will be resurfacing 107 lane miles – the same distance as a return journey from Newcastle to Belford – and nearly 90 miles of new road markings will be renewed. The work also includes installing seven miles of drainage, nearly four miles of safety barriers as well as renewing boundary fences and putting in nearly 7,900 reflective road studs.
