Ring-rusty Colts lose at home to Lauder
Berwick Colts 2-3 Lauder
With Berwick Colts being without a game in over a month it was no surprise when they started slowly, and Lauder took full advantage to take an early lead when a dangerous free kick was spilled and fell kindly to the feet of their striker, who scored from five yards.
Berwick drew level on 20 minutes when Briggs angled a perfect ball into space and Smith pounced to beat his marker and smash a shot over the keeper from 25 yards.
However, Lauder were soon gifted the ball on their right flank and Steele met the in-swinging cross with a perfectly angled header into the top corner.
Berwick looked a different team in the second half and they created several openings, but without success.
Their pressure finally paid off with 15 minutes remaining when player manager Brown split the defence with a clever through ball and Briggs got beyond his man and kept his cool to slot the ball under the oncoming keeper.
With 10 minutes remaining Lauder had a great chance to wrap the game up, but the Berwick keeper pulled off a fine double save with the help of the post.
With just eight minutes left Lauder grabbed the winner when Palmer made up for an earlier miss by spinning away from his marker to strike low and score.
