Residents can now take their fitness on the move
Residents across Northumberland can now take their fitness on the move with the launch of a new app, making it easier for them to plan and book sessions or track fitness progress on the go.
Following a successful trial at two leisure centres, Active Northumberland launched its new app to fitness users at 12 centres across the county, including the Swan Centre in Berwick.
It allows people to access a whole host of features all in one place on their smartphone or tablet.
The app enables leisure centre users to book or cancel classes, check timetables and availability, join waiting lists for over-subscribed classes, access special offers or view the latest alerts.
The Active Northumberland app has been trialled at Wentworth and Concordia Leisure Centre throughout March, with more than 1,400 people downloading the app during that time. Feedback from the trial has been very positive, with fitness users finding it easier to manage their classes and activities via the easy-to-use app.
Features of the new app include:
Fitness class bookings
Gym users can get real-time information about what, where and when classes are on. They can check availability and make, change or cancel bookings. Non-members can also pay for their classes here.
Residents wishing to meet friends on court or play 5-a-side can reserve their court, find a suitable time slot and book and pay all in one place.
Swimmers can find up-to-date swimming timetables to find their perfect time for a dip in the pool.
Leisure centre information
App users can find information on everything from leisure centre opening times to directions to one of the 15 leisure centres available.
News and alerts
Leisure centre users can also receive real-time news with an option for alert push notification.
Anyone wishing to speak to someone at Active Northumberland can also contact staff through the app.
From membership options to one-time activity deals, app users can get instant, direct access to all Active Northumberland offers.

The app also allows gym users to share workout progress or tell their friends about an amazing fitness class.
Gym and leisure centre users can also get more from their fitness regime by linking up with the MyWellness technology.
This feature allows app users to manage all of their activities and bookings and keep track of all of their workouts.
Lorraine Dewison, Chief Executive of Active Northumberland, said: “We’re delighted to launch this new app which will make it much easier for users across the county to book fitness sessions, classes and other activities on the move.
“The trial at Wentworth and Concordia leisure centres went really well, and the feedback has been very positive. We’ve also seen a real appetite from fitness users in other parts of Northumberland so we’re really pleased to be able to roll out the Active Northumberland app across the county.
“We want to make sure our fitness classes and activities are accessible to as many people as possible and we hope the introduction of this new app will make it even easier for more people to lead healthier and more active lifestyles.”
The app is not available at Rothbury, Druridge and Bedlington.
