Repairs start on Berwick Old Bridge
Work has started on repairs to a damaged section of Berwick's Old Bridge.
The project, co-ordinated by Northumberland County Council, is expected to be completed within three weeks.
Earlier this week, a scaffold access platform was installed – with a safety crew on standby – so repairs could be done.
An emergency inspection had to be carried out in November after a small section of Pier 8 fell into the River Tweed, although assurances were given by the council that there is no safety risk.
The road is closed to vehicles while repairs are undertaken but there will still be to access for pedestrians and cyclists.
