Two places were up for grabs in both men’s and women’s world championships, which are being held in Canada in March.

Andrew Reed, a farmer from Ancroft, Berwick, and a member of Glendale Curling Club was in the England team.

England won their first five group games against Netherlands, Australia, Poland, Denmark and Brazil to head the table.

Unfortunately, England lost their final two games against host nation New Zealand and table-toppers Korea, but finished second overall and qualified for the play-offs.

In the play-offs they lost to group winners Korea, but had a second chance to qualify for Canada when they faced the Netherlands. However, they also lost this game, which meant they didn’t make it through.

Afterwards, Reed said: “We’re gutted not to have qualified for the World Championships, but I am so proud of everything the team has achieved.”
