Reassurances given on bridge safety

Concerns about apparent cracks in the Royal Tweed Bridge in Berwick have been downplayed.

The gaps can be seen on both sides of the structure close to the Berwick bank.

A Northumberland County Council spokeswoman said: “The photo shows joints which accommodate movement in the bridge parapet, not cracks. It can be seen that most of the sealant has come out, or been removed, and this will be addressed in due course by one of our maintenance teams.”
