Rangers sunk as Annan net four
Annan Athletic 4-0 Berwick Rangers
Berwick’s League Cup campaign got off to a losing start when they went down to a disappointing 4-0 defeat to fellow Scottish League 2 side Annan Athletic at Galabank on Tuesday.
Annan had beaten Hamilton in the opening game of the round-robin section on Saturday and this victory gives then maximum points from their first two matches and puts them top of the five-team section.
Rangers, with two games at home in the coming week, must now try and regain some self belief when they face Airdrie at Shielfield on Saturday and Hamilton on Tuesday.
Robbie Horn’s side were sunk by two goals in each half with Tommy Muir striking twice in the opening 45 to put his side in the driving seat.
Muir had twice seen earlier efforts saved by Berwick keeper Ally Adams, who was busy throughout the game, before he gave Athletic the lead after 30 minutes with a header from a Chris Johnston cross. Muir doubled his side’s advantage with a shot into the bottom corner after 42 minutes.
But any hopes Berwick had of finding a foothold in the match were blown out of the water early in the second half when Annan scored twice in the first seven minutes through David Wilson and Scott Roberts
During the second half the home side dominated possession andAdams had to make a string of saves to denyAnnan with efforts from Johnston (twice), Tony Wallace and Owen Moxon
