Rangers lose on road at Peterhead
Peterhead 1-0 Berwick Rangers
Berwick manager Robbie Horn was left to rue a number of missed chances which cost his side dearly at Peterhead on Saturday.
Rangers went down to a 1/0 defeat at Balmoor, a loss which keeps them eighth in the Scottish League 2 table.
And afterwards Horn admitted: “On another day we might have come away with at least a point.
“We had a few chances, but the efforts were either saved or off target and once Peterhead got their noses in front we knew it was going to be difficult to claw our way back.”
Rangers gave a debut to new defender Aiden McIlduff, who played for Peterhead last season, and who had only signed for the Shielfield outfit 24 hours earlier.
In the early stages Peterhead had two chances through Jason Brown, who shot over, and Derek Lyle, who fired wide.
Simon Ferry also shot wide whilst Brown had a header saved by Berwick keeper Sean Brennan.
Rangers best chance of the first half fell to striker Daryl Healy, who had a shot saved, but Peterhead were in the ascendency and Jamie Stevenson fired just wide from a free kick whilst Jack Leitch has a shot blocked.
In the second half Scott Brown gad a shot blocked for the home side whilst McAllister had a shot from outside the box saved by Brennan.
After the hour mark Paul Willis and Healy both went close for Berwick in quick succession, before McAllister (twice) and Leitch went close for the Highland outfit.
But Rangers were finally undone when McAllister shot home after being set up by Stevenson.
Ryan Dow and Russell McKean then both shot wide as Peterhead went on search of s second, whilst Willis also shot wide for Berwick in the closing stages.
“It’s a long way to come and so it’s disappointing to leave empty handed,” said Horn.
“Hopefully we can bounce back at home against Clyde next week.”
