Proud of youth development

As part of my role as Berwick's new MP, I am involved in the RAF division of the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme.

I am getting to know the men and women who serve with such distinction in our Royal Air Force, working in any number of different environments, from radar specialists to plane and helicopter engineers, to pilots of Puma and Chinook helicopters and Typhoon planes.

Our own 1016 (Berwick) Squadron Air Training Corps is celebrating its 75th anniversary this weekend and we should be proud of every young cadet who takes up the opportunities and personal development training this affords.

I am continuing to meet with our schools and young people to encourage them to take up maths and science subjects in order to benefit from the huge job opportunities in our region and beyond in engineering, whether for a civilian career such as Nissan or in the Armed Forces.

I am looking forward to meeting more young cadets as they take on personal challenges which strengthen their future prospects.
