Maggie Jary moved to the town eight years ago and only then started to enjoy the benefits that photography has to offer.

“Joining the Berwick and District Camera Club gave me an insight into the different genres of photography as well as an opportunity to learn and share my hobby with others,” she said.

She became a member of the Royal Photographic Society and through its workshops developed her interest and expertise. In 2015, she was awarded the Licentiate distinction which then motivated her to try for the next level, an Associate.

A successful Associate application is a panel of 15 images. The categories are set by the RPS but the subject is chosen by the photographer.

Maggie said: “My panel was entered into the travel category, depicting our British seaside towns out of season. We mostly see photographs of the seaside on warm sunny days.

“The intention of my images is to capture a sense of time and place of our coastal towns during the winter months and to show how the character changes out of season. Of course, this meant braving the elements to get the shots I wanted. It took three winters to find the time to visit enough locations. Several hundred images later, I managed to whittle my selection down to the final 15.”
