There is a general view that the existing play park is in need of refurbishment.

In the short-term, the council has agreed to spend nearly £1,000 repairing damaged uprights.

But Coun Kirsty Dobson said: “I think it’s probably at the point it needs an upgrade.”

Chairman, Coun Barbara Brook, added: “It’s certainly looking a bit tired.”

She recalled that previous discussions on play park improvements suggested it could cost in the region of £35,000.

"It’s quite a sum of money to fork out but maybe we need to revisit it and get some ideas,” she said.

“I think the problem is the lack of space because if we want more equipment we would have to go behind the tennis court.

"Obviously, we would have to bring Bamburgh Castle Estates into as well because it’s their land.”

The issue will be put on the agenda for the next meeting.

Coun Brook added: "They did talk about having keep fit bikes for older people, like you might see in Spain, but I don’t know whether Bamburgh is quite ready for it!”

The parish council is also keen to expand a volunteer litter-picking effort on the beach and dunes.

Coun Dobson said she had been impressed by the work initiated by local resident Robbie Howard and wondered whether a group could be formed.

"It would be a nice thing to try and get more people involved,” agreed Coun Andy Bardgett.

Meanwhile, repainting of the lamp posts at Armstrong Cottages is on the cards.

"They’re in a bit of a state,” said Coun Bardgett. “I don’t think they’ve been done since they were put in 24 years ago.”

Coun Guy Renner-Thompson, local member on Northumberland County Council, will fund the work from his small schemes budget.

He also reported that yellow lines have now been painted on the road up to Armstrong House.

Councillors also heard there are plans to mark the 100th anniversary of the Royal British Legion in 2021.

Discussions are at an early stage but a commemorative event at Bamburgh war memorial on May 15 has been mooted.
