A request has been made by Beadnell Parish Council to Northumberland County Council.

Cllr Guy Renner-Thompson, local county councillor, said he was happy to support the study but questioned whether it was necessary or wanted in the historic core of the village.

"Do you really want it throughout the whole village or just where the speeding is?” he asked parish councillors at a Zoom meeting.

"If you put in a 20mph speed limit you have to have those little repeater signs on every second lamppost throughout the village.

"You’ve just made the village a conservation area and this would include the parts of the village next to the church where I don’t think you need it.

"Harbour Road, on the other hand, probably makes perfect sense.”

Parish council chairman Alison Nation said she would request further details from the highways department on what it would entail.

Cllr Jen Hall said: “I was against the 20mph through the whole village so I agree.”

Cllr Jacqui Davison added: “I don’t think the centre would need it but we’ll see what comes back from the study.”

It was reported that the glass recycling containers at the car park are now being emptied twice a week by Northumberland County Council instead of once a week. A bin that was missing has also been replaced.

The council has £2,020 in donations from holiday let owners which it plans to put towards the costs of keeping the public toilets open over the winter and the installation of a new water fountain.

Councillors also heard there had been damage at the play park for the second time this year. Most recently, a sign at the playground had been smashed. It had been reported to the police but the culprit has not been found.

There had also been two incidents of garden waste being deposited at the playground.

“The cost to the parish council is mounting up. It would be lovely if the incidents stopped,” said Cllr Nation.
