£5,000 committed towards war memorial restoration project and more from Wooler Parish Council

Wooler Parish Council has agreed to put £5,000 towards the project, with hopes that further funds can be secured from the War Memorials Trust.
Two tenders for the work were received but councillors want more information from both bidders about the scale of their plans.

Hide Ad“It’s a lot more money than we all thought it was going to be,” admitted chairman, Cllr Mark Mather.
Glendale Historical Society is keen to provide information boards.
Work to remove ivy from the nearby Tory site has been completed.
Meanwhile, the parish council is planning a project to remove ivy and scrub on the Scott’s Park side of the riverside bank. It was agreed to seek quotes for the work.

"The bulbs are looking fantastic,” said Cllr Mather. “I think next year will be a brilliant show.”
A request to the county council for access to land on the first school site has been approved.
It will allow the Parochial Church Council (PCC) to start drawing up plans for a proposed cemetery extension.

Hide Ad"It means the PCC can go on and start their investigation works such as percolation tests,” explained Cllr Mather. “The county council will also start the process of getting permission to turn the playing field from a school into a cemetery.”
It was revealed that new recycling bins have been ordered for the corner of the bus station. The parish council has asked for a new or refurbished clothes bin.
The Tweed Forum is preparing a grant bid for works planned at the Haugh Head ford. The project could involve local community schemes and the parish council felt that geography study trips for local pupils and an improved footpath to Haugh Head garage would be good ideas to see progressed.
A request has been made to Northumbrian Water to find out more about installing a water supply at the community allotments. As a short term measure, Cllr Anthony Murray has agreed to fund a water bowser which can also be used by the town’s floral display team. A further £500 will be put towards flowers.
