It was all part of Northumberland County Council’s £36m investment in improvements to the county’s 3,000 miles of highway and pavements over the current financial year.
This summer’s work, which is now complete, had extra challenges due to the coronavirus pandemic, and the council had to fully consider any risks to both its workforce and the public.

The works included resurfacing, surface dressing which is carried out on more rural roads and micro-surfacing in more residential locations - giving a smoother and hard wearing top surface.
Council leader Glen Sanderson said: “We know how important it is to ensure our roads are well maintained, even in the most difficult of circumstances.
“Our annual surface dressing programme provides added protection to the road surface cost effectively increasing the lifespan of the road, as well as improving its skid resistance, making it safer and smoother to drive on.
