Plans have been lodged for five self-contained timber glamping pods for hikers and cyclists only near Weetwood Hall, between Wooler and Chatton.

Applicant David Coulson also wants to provide two double B&B rooms with their own facilities.

The 0.66 hectares site is currently being used as a garden.

Secure undercover cycle storage would be provided.

There would be compost toilets if allowed, otherwise a package sewage scheme.

The scheme could create one full-time and two part-time jobs.

Northumberland County Council’s highways department has requested further information.

The 100km (62.5 miles) St Cuthbert’s Way links Melrose in the Scottish Borders, where St Cuthbert started his religious life in 650AD, with Holy Island, his eventual resting place and his original pilgrimage shrine.

It is also close to the Route 68 cycle route between Derbyshire and north Northumberland.
