Bamburgh gets additional temporary parking in bid to combat congestion problems

Temporary permission has been granted for use of the Glebe Field for 56 days rather than the 28 days it has been allowed in the past.

In addition, the possibility of another temporary car park on Lucker Road is being investigated.

"It’s great news that we’ve received agreement from Northumberland County Council to allow Glebe Field to be open for 56 days and more without any penalty for this year only,” said Cllr Barbara Brook, chairman of Bamburgh Psrish Council.

Plans are being put in place for signage to direct traffic there in peak periods.

The council is now waiting to find out if stewardship of a portion of the ducket field opposite The Mizen can be arranged so it could also be used for parking.

"At least we’re going to have quite an adequate back-up car park which will hopefully be opened from the end of May right the way through until September which I’m hoping is going to alleviate some of our car parking problems,” said Cllr Brook.

"Obviously if the ducket field comes in as well it will be good to see which one people use as to how we go forwards in the future with car parking.”

Cllr Kate Morton added: “I hope we do manage to get around this loophole for the field opposite the Mizen because we need a fair test to see which field is going to be the best one.”

She also expressed thanks to Bamburgh Castle Estates and the Baker-Cresswell family for being involved in the discussions.
