Police are on poachers' tails

Criminals and poachers who travel to Northumberland from surrounding areas are being warned the police are on their tail.

The warning comes after a recent success which has seen five men convicted with poaching offences after being caught by officers in Wooler.

On January 26, five men were caught poaching on private land without permission. They were summoned to Berwick Magistrates Court where they pleaded guilty to poaching offences and received fines of up to £500.

“We will always take action against those caught poaching in our areas and in order to do this we need support from local farming communities.

“We urge anyone who may suspect people of poaching in rural areas, or anyone who may spot people acting suspiciously to contact police so we can investigate straight away.”

Anyone with concerns is asked to contact police on 101 or dial 999 in an emergency.
