Update provided on roadworks with traffic lights on key Morpeth road

The project to complete surface water drainage for the St George Estate and St George’s access road is being carried out on the B1337 Dark Lane and the access road. It is scheduled to finish in December.

Although they do not require road closures, barriers and temporary traffic lights are in place for safety reasons.

Countryside Partnerships North East – with the co-operation of Northumberland County Council – announced last month that it will be putting in place the new below ground surface water drainage from the entry of the Morpeth NHS Centre, running west along the B1337 to the River Wansbeck.

In a progress update for the scheme, a spokesperson for the developer said: “We would like to thank road users – and everyone potentially affected by the works – for their continued patience and understanding whilst these infrastructure upgrades are being delivered.

“The programme remains to schedule at this stage, despite the recent wet weather caused by Storm Babet.

“The existing traffic management system is expected to be relocated just past the access road, which serves St George’s Wood and the St George’s Park hospital entrance, so that it can remain on a two-way traffic light system for the time being to try and minimise traffic disruption.

“We remain confident that works will be completed to schedule, but will continue to regularly monitor progress and keep local residents, motorists and businesses informed.”
