Team at Paxton House want volunteers

Those who would like to volunteer their time to help Paxton House, near Berwick, can find out more about the opportunities available during one of its special tours over the next few days.

The boat for the boat trips is a Norwegian made 20ft Pioner Multi fitted with a 40HP Honda outboard.

The Georgian country house, located on the banks of the River Tweed, has long been a popular venue for a day out with both locals and visitors.

Volunteers are also being sought to help with the boat trips on the River Tweed from the Paxton House site.

Roles to assist the team will be mentioned on the house, gardens and grounds tours – by appointment only – tomorrow (Friday), Saturday and Monday, but you can also ask questions to get more information.

Areas include marketing and events, archives, education and gardening.

The boats leave from the mooring adjacent to the Paxton salmon netting station where, at certain times, you can observe the netting crew in action ‘bagging and tagging’ sea trout and salmon for scientific research.

The volunteer ‘skippers’ give a running commentary on the local area and its history.

The tidal nature of the Tweed means that those interested in going on a boat trip are advised to book in advance. Day and time availability is shown at www.paxtonhouse.co.uk one month in advance.

The Paxton Trust is looking for boat trip team volunteers. Due to Covid-19 and safety reasons, it needs two crew members each day.
