First preference of place went to 98.4 per cent of parents who applied on time, one per cent higher than last year, and this year all parents have been offered one of their top three preferences.

The admissions portal opened at midnight last Friday and parents who applied online received an email with a link to the portal.

Cath McEvoy-Carr, Executive Director of Adults and Children's Services at Northumberland County Council, said: “This is great news for Northumberland parents and carers.

"In recent years we have seen Northumberland continue to achieve a very high level of first preference offers to parents, and this has improved again this year.

“We work really hard to ensure that there are enough school places available in the catchment schools for children, and this is testament to the hard work being done by the school admissions team to ensure enough primary school places are made available.

“I am delighted with this outcome.”

Northumberland’s school admissions team are now assuming that parents wish to accept their school place unless they advise otherwise. Should a parent wish to refuse a place they should contact the team, giving your child's name, date of birth and reason for refusal, before May 1.
