Anna McNuff ran through the Tweed Valley and Roxburghshire as part of her Barefoot Britain challenge.

Anna is running 2,620 miles – the distance of 100 marathons – barefoot. She began in the Shetland Islands on Sunday, June 2, and finishes in London on Sunday, November 10.

Anna is running barefoot across coastlines, through villages, across moors, over mountains, along beaches, over farmland and a few A-roads.

The Girlguiding ambassador is visiting girls and young women along the way to talk about her adventure.

And during her visit to the region she visited Tweedbank Community Centre to talk to local Brownie and Guide groups.

In April, Girlguiding launched its major new manifesto for girl-led change after girls said they want access to adventure and play without fear, and the opportunity to play the sports that boys play too.

Anna said: “Girls want adventure.

“They want to have exciting experiences without worrying about being treated differently or feeling unsafe because they are girls.

“Barefoot Britain will show girls that adventure is as much for them as it is for boys.

“All the way through Barefoot Britain, I’ll be talking to girls and young women about taking on adventures and doing things that scare them.

“I want to show girls that their gender is not a barrier for adventure and to encourage the girls and young women of the UK to be their brilliant selves.”

Lucy, 12, and Amy, nine, said: “We really enjoyed Anna's visit to Tweedbank.

“We loved that she wasn't afraid to do what she wanted to do and didn't care if people judged her.

“She overcame every obstacle in her way and didn't give up. We also loved the way she inspires women.”

Beth, 12, and Emily, 10, added: “We had a great time meeting Anna. We found her to be really funny, exuberant, optimistic and very friendly.

“It was interesting to hear about her adventures and she did a brilliant job of bringing it all to life.

“She was honest about the highs and lows and resilience needed to complete them.”
