House to host free Music at Paxton…Plus taster concerts

The high-quality chamber music that will be played during a festival at a Georgian country house near Berwick later this summer can be sampled at two upcoming free taster concerts.

Music at Paxton is back for 2021 and the taster performances at Paxton House, on the banks of the River Tweed, come under the ‘Music at Paxton…Plus’ heading.

Twogether Duo, Huixin Hu on violin and Alena Bulatetskaya on the accordion, play a wide variety of styles – from their own transcriptions of Baroque music to contemporary chamber compositions.

On Sunday (June 20), from 3pm, they will perform works by Bach, Manuel de Falla, Russian and Chinese Folk, and famous tangos by Astor Piazzolla.

New Antonine Brass are a brass quintet dedicated to sharing a variety of musical genres – classical, contemporary, jazz, Scottish traditional and pop, and their own arrangements.

Their concert on Sunday, July 4, from 3pm, features a wide range of pieces including glorious Baroque music from Venice and excerpts from Bernstein’s West Side Story, as well as the World Premiere of Ronald MacNiven’s Japonica.

Music at Paxton…Plus, a three-way partnership between Music at Paxton Festival, Live Music Now Scotland and Paxton House, gives music lovers the opportunity to experience exceptional chamber music for free. The Music at Paxton Festival itself will run between July 16 and 25.
