Overnight closure of the A1 in Berwickshire
There will be an overnight closure on the A1 at Houndwood from Friday, April 27, to Tuesday, May 1, between 8pm and 6am the following morning.
The closure is to allow a £196,000 resurfacing scheme on the northbound carriageway.
The A1 northbound carriageway at Houndwood will be closed, with a signed diversion route in operation. Local access will be maintained throughout duration of works.
Southbound traffic will be diverted north of Grantshouse to join the A1107 and will proceed through Coldingham and Eyemouth where traffic will then be able to rejoin the A1.
Northbound traffic will be diverted at Berwick to join the A6105 towards Duns. Traffic will be instructed to join the A6112 and will continue in a northerly direction through Preston then rejoin the A1.
Over 4,000 vehicles a day use the stretch of road.
The improvement scheme will improve the carriageway, verges and should reduce the need for future, more extensive maintenance.
This work has been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, the emergency services and Scottish Borders Council and will be carried out by Amey who are responsible for Scotland’s south east trunk roads network.
