Claim is not substantiated
On October 4, 2018, the Berwick Advertiser quoted Northumberland County Council’s leader Peter Jackson as having referred to Berwick’s Maltings Theatre as being ‘internationally renowned’
As members of the Association of Performing Arts Collections (APAC), which has very close links with the International Network of Cultural Heritage in Performing Arts (SIBMAS), we work with the Victoria and Albert Museum, the British Library and others to promote theatre within the UK and Ireland.
Thus, with well-known internationally renowned theatres in the UK and Ireland in mind, we wrote to Coun Jackson to ask him to substantiate his claim that Berwick’s Maltings is an ‘internationally renowned’ theatre.
Sadly, but not surprisingly, despite many subsequent written reminders from us to Coun Jackson and/or his secretary Tracy Hollan, we have received no substantiating answer.
Many people rely on statements that Coun Jackson makes.
We, therefore, feel it is sad that the county council’s leader is prepared to make statements that may mislead people.
