The Maltings’ Artistic Director, Matthew Rooke, is confident that the Berwick Festival Opera programme for 2016 will maintain the superb standard set last year.

He said: “Our season of four operas ranges from the comic-with-bite panache of Gilbert and Sullivan to two darkly dramatic tales of the supernatural with The Turn of the Screw and a perfectly-timed-for-Halloween performance of The Vampyre, and ends on an emotional high with Poulenc’s enthralling one act drama La Voix Humaine.

“The programme has been carefully selected for its entertaining mix of comedy, drama and human emotion – but above all for the sheer beauty of the music.”
