'˜Not enough work' to warrant job, pair say

Berwick Town Council's plans to appoint a project manager/ deputy town clerk have been criticised by councillors, even though the decision has already been agreed.

Coun Anne Forbes and Coun Brian Douglas raised their concerns when the budget committee met to discuss the role’s job description.

“At the moment we don’t have enough work for a project manager/assistant town clerk,” said Coun Forbes.

“It’s another salary out of the door,” said Coun Douglas.

However, Coun Robert Bruce felt it was important to have someone in place to help deliver projects such as the barracks regeneration and mini-marina.

The role would also help to ease some of the town clerk’s current burden, especially with event management such as the Riding of the Bounds.
