Norway trip fires up choir for season
A men's choir will resume its regular meetings next week after its extremely successful trip abroad.
Berwick Male Voice Choir (BMVC) has just returned from Norway after it was invited to participate in the 1,000th anniversary celebrations of the Norwegian city of Sarpsborg, a twin town of Berwick.
Members spent five days entertaining and being entertained by the Norwegian people.
BMVC has had a close friendship with the Sarpsborg Male Voice Choir for many years and exchange visits have taken place regularly for nearly 30 years.
They played at the Sarpborg Scene, a custom-built concert hall, which allowed the choirs to show off their talents to maximum effect on the first night of celebrations.
And the second night found the choirs performing in Sarpsborg Kirke, the largest church in the region. Again a packed audience was entertained by individual performances from the choirs, in addition to a famous local ladies’ choir, KODA.
Sarpsborg Male Choir has accepted an invitation to come to Berwick in 2018.
The winter season for BMVC gets under way on Wednesday, at 6.45pm, when the choir will be holding an open evening at Longridge Towers. This will be an opportunity for people thinking about joining the choir to pop along and get a feel of things.
