In a hard competitive game a goal from Ryan Thompson saw North Sunderland ahead at half time . Belford equalised through Kevin Greshon after the interval but Neil Macfarlane scored to see the visitors progress to the next round.

Lowick United 6

Shilbottle 2

This was the second meeting between the sides in just over a fortnight, and after an exciting extra-time win over their opponents first time out, they were looking to get the job done in 90 minutes this time around.

Straight away Lowick threatened with some great play down the sides as Metcalf and Jones caused the visitors some concerns!

Lowick’s opener came after 10 minutes when a beautiful corner from the left from Andy Metcalf was converted by the head of the leaping Graham Fairbairn.

Jack Young added a second after 20 minutes before Shilbottle forced keeper Riach into making a good save at the other end.

A good passing move then saw Young net his second and this gave Lowick a 3-0 lead at half-time.

In the second half, top scorer Aaron Hope missed a chance to extend the lead, but after two assists, it was Andy Metcalf who netted the fourth with a cool finish from the edge of the box to put the game beyond the visitors’ reach.

Lowick looked to be in control at this point, but two Shilbottle goals in the space of eight minutes meant some nerves started to creep into their play.

The home side made a couple of substitutions and Hope again went close, but it was clearly not his day.

Ben Fairbairn then settled the nerves when he scored a spectacular fifth, finding the top corner from a free kick 25 yards out.

The sixth and final goal came in the closing minutes when Hope’s persistence finally paid off and he grabbed his seventh of the season.

*The Sanderson Cup game between Tweedmouth Harrow and Rothbury was postponed.
