Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust's 'Join Our Journey' roadshow in Berwick.

It is an opportunity for local residents to share their views on how the NHS can be ‘fit for the future’.

The roadshow will be on Marygate from 9am to 4pm.

The return visit has been arranged after a double booking meant the NHS could not hold their roadshow on Marygate last Wednesday as originally planned.

It was held outside Berwick Infirmary instead but the trust is keen to give as many people as possible a chance to have their say.

Since 1948, the NHS has been constantly evolving to meet the country’s changing needs and expectations - from a growing older population to new treatments and technologies.

Thanks to advances in diagnostics, medical treatments and surgical techniques, procedures which were once only carried out in specialist centres are now common place in even small local hospitals. So much so that where once a knee operation could require a full 14-day stay in a general hospital, now, patients can be in and out in less than one. In the same way, more care can now be delivered closer to people; out in the community and in people’s homes.

The trust’s roadshow will be out and about from 6 to 17 November.

Claire Riley director of communications and corporate affairs at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The NHS has always evolved and here at Northumbria we have a strong track record of being at the forefront – something we’re very proud of!

“In many ways we are already embracing many of the challenges faced by today’s NHS by harnessing new technologies and treatments and we’re leading the way nationally for integrating health and social care; with revolutionary outcomes for patients.

“However we fully appreciate there’s more we can do and that’s where we need your input.

“We’re particularly keen to hear your ideas about how we can do things differently and make the most of the resources we have.”

On the roadshows, people will be able to learn more about Northumbria Healthcare’s vision to ‘get fit for the future’ by helping residents to live well, providing care and support when people need it and using resources wisely.
