The Welcome Visitor Project is launching a fund to develop the local events and festivals programme in order to attract more visitors and to ensure Berwick is a vibrant and exciting visitor destination.

“The success of the Autumn Festivals programme has clearly demonstrated that events are significant in attracting new and additional visitors to the town,” said Andy Ashcroft, Welcome Visitor project manager.

“This fund will provide financial support for activities which add new dimensions to the current Festivals programme or deliver new events which help to promote and celebrate Berwick’s distinctiveness.”

Application forms and funding guidance are available at www.berwickcct.uk under ‘Destination Events’. The deadline for applications, for events until the end of March 2020, is May 31, 2019.

“The project steering group has allocated £30,000 to this initial round of events funding,” added Andy. “In order to support a wide programme of activities we anticipate the average grant will be around £5,000. Both larger and smaller scale events will be considered and will be assessed against the funding criteria.”

The project is funded by £314,000 from the Coastal Communities Fund.

The project seeks to support the development of tourism in Berwick upon Tweed and will invest in branding, marketing, skills and events development.
