The seat is currently held by Lib Dem Gavin Jones.

Jim said: “People may know me as a local historian but I have an eye for the future. I have lived in Berwick for the best part of 40 years and I believe I know our wonderful town and its people.

“During this time I have been an active member of local life in many ways, trying in my own small way, to help others.

“I have worked at Berwick Museum for 20 of those years, first under Berwick Borough Council and latterly the Woodhorn Trust. After 2009, I worked for Northumberland County Council for four years as well. This experience has given me an insight as to how local councils operate.

“In matters of national politics I am left wing but I do not believe party politics should come into play at this level. This is why I am standing as an Independent candidate. Like many, I believe Berwick (and Tweedmouth and Spittal) have been at best, largely forgotten; at worst, plundered, in favour of the south-east of the county which returns the majority of councillors. Enough! This has to be stopped.”

He added: “I have my own concerns but I want to hear yours, be it education, emergency services, planning or housing. Email or look on Facebook at Jim Herbert for Berwick North.”
