New book on the rich history of Chillingham
A new book about Chillingham with its unique wild cattle, historic castle, church and family associated with them since the 12th century has been published.
Chillingham: Its Cattle, Castle and Church, edited by Paul G Bahn and Vera B Mutimer, has a foreword by the Prince of Wales.
This interesting tale is lavishly illustrated with many rare and unpublished photographs.
The cattle have been immortalised by famous names such as Sir Walter Scott, Thomas Bewick and Charles Darwin, while the castle has a chequered but fascinating history, with a reputation for ghostly goings-on, and the country church has a 15th century tomb.
Dr Paul Bahn is an editor of numerous archaeological and humorous books. Vera B Mutimer is a trustee of the Chillingham Wild Cattle Association.
