M&S gives its backing to Macmillan Cancer Support
M&S Berwick and Macmillan Cancer Support are joining forces again in a bid to raise more money than ever before for the charity's flagship fundraising event, the World's Biggest Coffee Morning.
A collaboration now in its seventh year, M&S Cafés nationwide will support the charity by hosting a coffee morning on Friday, September 30, in celebration of the popular initiative, and is calling on customers to join in and do their bit too.
Additional fundraising activities will also take place in stores throughout the country across September.
M&S shoppers will be able to enjoy a whole host of tasty treats on sale in M&S Foodhalls with 10 per cent of each sale going to Macmillan. Products include a delicious Victoria sandwich, afternoon tea fairy cakes and 13 flavours of cake and cookie mixes. All M&S cafés will also be donating 5p from every cup of coffee and slice of cake sold throughout September to Macmillan Cancer Support.
An array of limited edition home products, including a bone china mug, a set of three tea towels, a cake tin and an apron will also be available in the majority of M&S homeware departments with 10 per cent of each sale going to the charity.
This year’s event comes as it is revealed that there are two-and-a-half million people living with cancer in the UK today, a number that is set to rise to four million by 2030.
M&S has supported World’s Biggest Coffee Morning since 2010 and during this time the retailer has raised more than £6million for Macmillan. The money raised by M&S helps to support people affected by cancer as well as fund vital posts in local communities, right across the UK. Last year, 26 Macmillan professional posts were funded.
Abbie Williams, store manager at M&S Berwick, said: “Macmillan is a charity that’s close to the hearts of many of our customers and colleagues which is why we’re determined to make this year’s event our most successful yet.
“World’s Biggest Coffee Morning provides the perfect opportunity to get your friends and family together to enjoy a coffee, a cake and a catch-up for what is a very worthy cause. If you aren’t hosting your own coffee morning then we’d love to see you join us in-store on September 30 to help us raise funds. We will also have Macmillan-themed goods on sale throughout September.”
On the day of the coffee morning event - 30th September - Macmillan professionals will be able to claim a free coffee, whilst every customer who has an M&S Sparks Loyalty Card and has selected Macmillan as their chosen charity will be granted a double donation - from 1p to 2p - on each transaction.
Alix Wooding, Head of Corporate Partnerships at Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “We want to make sure that no one has to face cancer alone. The support Macmillan receives from M&S is vital in enabling us to continue to support those affected by cancer, as well as those around them.
“We rely on the generosity of our supporters for more than 99% of our income and coffee morning events, or popping into your local M&S store to support us, are great ways to have fun whilst raising vital funds to help people affected by cancer.
“If you can’t do it on 30th September then just pick another day or you can also support us by visiting M&S Berwick upon Tweed for a cup of coffee or by picking up one of the many treats on offer throughout September that will see much needed funds donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.”
Volunteers are also encouraged to sign up to support Macmillan’s collection efforts taking place at M&S stores nationwide throughout September. To find out more and to register your interest visit: http://volunteering.macmillan.org.uk/Opportunity/Details/4849
