The MP was offered a charity bet – with any winnings going towards the charity of her choice – in this case Hospicecare North Northumberland.

She said: “It was great to talk to Ladbrokes about the measures they are taking to promote responsible gambling, and to meet David Currie, who runs the branch here in Berwick. The guys gave me some tips, and I went for Cocktails at Dawn, and politicians’ favourite, Perfect Candidate. Sadly neither finished the race, and Cocktails at Dawn fell at the first!”
