MP views global market as growth area for whisky
The value of expansion into new markets for companies like Simpsons Malt has been stressed by Berwick MP Anne-Marie Trevelyan in the House of Commons.
Mrs Trevelyan raised the issue with David Mundell, Secretary of State for Scotland, after meeting the Scotch Whisky Association.
She said: “Simpsons Malt in my constituency produces an enormous amount of the malted barley sold across the border in Scotland to produce this whisky. Does my Right Hon Friend agree that expansion into new markets that have nothing to do with the EU is the growth area for the whisky industry?”

Mr Mundell replied: “There are tremendous opportunities for development of the Scotch whisky industry. I think the Scottish Government, the UK Government and all parties are united on that.”
