MP supports our aspirations
I feel I must take issue with the letter of Peter Watts (Berwick Advertiser, October 25).
There seem to be countless attacks on the integrity of our MP, which have no basis in fact.
‘Why does she want Brexit?’ Quite simply, the country voted for it; her constituency voted for it by a large majority. She is supporting the wishes of the people in both cases, to do otherwise would be a dereliction of duty.
‘Why does she risk the break up of the UK?’ Both she and the Government have stated categorically that this is not up for discussion.
‘Why does she resist reform of the House of Lords?’ She doesn’t.
‘Why does she resist reforming the electoral system?’ Because the electorate voted two to one against doing so, and therefore she is upholding the will of the people.
‘Why does she wish to leave the European Court of Justice?’ Among other things, this court prevents us from deporting child killers, murderers and rapists who laugh in the faces of honest, law-abiding people in this country.
Am I angry? You bet I am.
Don’t preach to us Mr Watts, just look at your own party’s record.
In Anne-Marrie Trevelyan we have someone whose instincts and aspirations are a pure reflection of the majority of the people in this town.
She has a passion to do everything she can to truly represent her electorate, and she will continue to do so, despite these attacks from a minority.
