Morrisons is getting a makeover
Morrisons supermarket in Berwick is undergoing a refurbishment.
The store’s Market Street section is being given a new look, including a new make-your-own pizza counter and a new cake shop.
It will also feature a bigger range of Nutmeg clothing.
Store manager Richard Hutton, in a message to customers, said: “We’ve listened to what our customers would like and are making some exciting changes to your Berwick store.
“We’re open as usual while we make our improvements, though you may notice a little disruption on your next visit.”
It is hoped to have the work finished by March 12.
An application for advertisement consent for store rebranding was discussed by Berwick Town Council’s planning committee on Tuesday.
Councillors called for controls on lighting when the store is closed.
Coun Ivor Dixon said: “I hope it doesn’t turn out like last time. When you’re coming down the A1 it looks like an airport with the amount of lights. Do they need to light the place up as much?”
Coun Anne Forbes said: “It’s quite a built-up area. If Morrisons are shining their lights all through the night, it’s not fair for people that live nearby.
“We’ve also had a terrible time with boy racers there and it would encourage them even more if Morrisons left their lights on overnight.”
Coun Brian Douglas was surprised that store renovations were being done before advertisement consent had been secured.
“It seems to me they’ve put the cart before the horse,” he said.
