Penny Derries of The Grove School is presented with the cheque by Brian Morton and the staff at MKMs branch in Berwick.

Liam Simpson, Ross Scott, Kevin Baxter, Gordon Laurence and Ilona Bendziute, staff at the builders’ merchant, tackled Britain’s highest mountain in October.

Penny Derries, of The Grove School, was presented with the cheque for £800 by Brian Morton, branch director at MKM Berwick.

During their trek to Nevis’ icy summit – a daunting 1,345 metres – the gallant group were also accompanied by Wilfred the dog.

The Grove School provides placements for students who have complex learning needs, covering a broad spectrum of difficulties.

Brian said: “It’s an absolute pleasure to present this cheque to The Grove School. The incredibly important work they do makes them an ideal recipient for every penny of the money raised.

“We want to thank all our sponsors – and a massive hand once again to the fearless team. All of this wouldn’t have been possible without the transportation help from Gary Crone, as well as Cooks Car and Van Hire for the transport.”
