It wasn’t a winning start to 2018 for Berwick when they went down 3-0 to Edinburgh City on Tuesday.

Rangers travelled to Ainslie Park in the hope of beating City, who sat second from bottom of Scottish League 2.

During the course of the game they created several chances, but a failure to capitalise on them cost them dearly as they went down to a defeat which keeps them seventh in the table.

In the first half Michael McKenna and Chris McDonald both went close for Berwick early on, whilst Ashley Grimes did likewise for the hosts.

And it was Grimes who opened the scoring after 30 minutes with a shot from the right side if the box after being set up by El Alagui.

At the start of the second half McKenna and McDonald again tested the home defence in the opening minutes, before McKenna also fired over from a free kick.

Andy Irving also shot over the top whilst former Berwick captain Pat Scullion, on his debut for the capital, side, forced a save out of Robby McCrorie.

City doubled their advantage through Scott Shepherd after 76 minutes and he added a third just four minutes later, both with shots from a central position inside the box.

McKenna had a shot saved by Antell in the closing minutes, but again it was too little too late for Robbie Horn’s side, who will be hoping for a change in fortune when they visit Stirling Albion on Saturday.
