St Cuthbert's First School pupils on their fund-raising walk for Mary's Meals.

They invited James Bruce, the local parish representative for Mary’s Meals, in to school to tell them more about the organisation.

It works in some of the worlds poorest communities, providing a daily meal for children in a place of education.

The aim is to transform the lives of hundreds of thousands of impoverished children around the world.

St Cuthbert’s RC First School headteacher Clare McGregor said: “We decided to help by organising a sponsored walk around the walls with the aim of raising £80. Just £12.20 can feed a child for a whole school year.

“We were delighted that some visitors to the town and a local resident stopped to ask us about the charity and then both gave a donation. So far we have raised more than £129 for the charity and are still counting.”
