McAskill hits winner as Rangers hit back to book cup final place

weedmouth Rangers booked their place in the final of the Anderson Cup when they came from behind to beat North Sunderland in a thrilling semi-final on Monday.

After just two minutes play Tweedmouth were awarded a penalty and Johnathan Simpson scored from the spot.

Rangers were reduced to10 men after 17 minutes with Ryan Thompson equalising from the penalty spot for North Sunderland .

Two minutes later Ryan Thompson netted from a free kick to put the visitors ahead, but shortly afterwards Rudy McLeod lobbed the visiting keeper to equalise for Tweedmouth .

North Sunderland hit back to net a third through Robert Scott to restore the lead which they held to half time .

The visitors’ ten men were holding their own but as they began to tire Johnathan Simpson netted hissecond of the game with a back post header and on 82 minutes.

Peter MacAskill then netted a four afourth for Tweedmouth to take them through to the final.


Friday’s Runciman Cup Final between Tweedmouth Harrow and Wooler, which was due to be played at Shielfield, was postponed because of the weather. It will now be re-staged this Friday (May 6).

Bamburgh started well and were three goals ahead after 20 minutes with goals from Dan and Johnny Johnson plus a Ryan Harrison goal.

Bedlington pulled a goal back when Ryan Wilson caught the keeper off his line to lob home and on 45 minutes Robert Watt scored a second for Breakers .

With Breakers keeper on good form to keep Bamburgh it was a second half hat trick from Michael Freathy that secured the win for the visitors .


Craster Rovers 3

Springhill 6

This was a good even game throughout but missed chances cost Craster dear at the final whistle .

Rhys Hogg and Liam Crowe netted twice in the first half for Craster but Springhill hit back to net three times before the interval.

After half time Craster netted a third through Josh Harrison, but it was Springhill who finished the stronger to net three more before the final whistle.

Goalscorers for Springhill were Colin Young (3), James Moor, David Hainsworth and Martin O’Neil .

Alnmouth 1

Embleton WR 0

Alnmouth registered their first win of the season when Andrew Martin netted after 60 minutes .
