Maths prize for Berwick uni graduate

A Berwick woman has been named as one of the top maths students in the country.

Veronica Kelsey, who has recently graduated from Manchester University with an integrated Masters in mathematics, has won a prize from the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA).

Every year, the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications awards prizes to university and college students who obtain outstanding results in mathematics.

Each institution in the UK that runs IMA-approved courses may nominate two prize-winners each year.

The prize-winners receive a special certificate and a year’s free membership of the Institute.

Veronica said: “I was a bit surprised but also really pleased. I only found out about it a few weeks before graduation.”

She is now planning to do a Phd at St Andrew’s University.
