Man killed in collision with combine is named

A man who was killed in a collision with a combine harvester in north Northumberland has been named.

John Paul Currie was a 35-year-old father-of-two from Berwick.

An inquest into his death was opened and adjourned by the senior coroner for north Northumberland on Monday.

The collision happened just after 7.30pm on Friday night on the A1167 old A1 road leading into Berwick.

Officers, ambulance staff and fire crews attended the incident but the driver of an Audi car was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

A section of the road between Scremerston and Cemetery Lane was closed for several hours with diversions in place while collision investigation work was done.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to ring police on 101 quoting reference number 1130 23/09/16

The tragedy has sparked on outpouring of grief and messages of sympathy on social media.

It also prompted concerns about farm traffic on the roads, especially at this time of year.
